Other Road Construction Projects Stopped in the U.S.

Boston Southwest Expressway Project

In the 1970's Governor Francis Sargent stopped further planning for what was to be called the "Southwest Expressway.  In February 1970, ordered a moratorium on all new expressway construction within MA 128 (Yankee Division Highway), and ordered a review of expressway and transit plans in the Boston area. From the governor's action, the Boston Transportation Planning Review (BTPR) was born, and later the plans for the Southwest Expressway were shelved.
